Open Attachments Using Outlook Express

Introduction

When using Outlook Express, opening attachments can be confusing. If the security options in your Internet browser are not correctly set, that may be the reason you are not able to open attachments. Follow these simple steps to adjust your Outlook Express settings. Opening attachments will then be easier.

How to Open Attachments Using Outlook Express

Steps

Step One

Choose "Tools > Options > Security" at the top of your Outlook Express window.

Step Two

Select the option, "Internet zone, less secure, but more functional." (Note: Do not select the option, "Restricted Sites Zone.")

Step Three

Uncheck the box, "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus."

Step Four

Click "OK" in your Options dialog box.

Tips & Warnings

If you are using Microsoft Web Access (instead of Outlook Express), make sure that you are opening the actual file by selecting the file and double clicking on it. This lets you access the attachment to open it.
